Manjari FIRST LOOK

MARKING the auspicious day of Maghe Sankranti, the crew of an upcoming Nepali film launched its poster in an event at an orphanage in the Capital that saw the actors interacting with the children. The team behind the newlyreleased Manjari visited the Paropakar Sanstha in Tahachal on Monday, a place chosen, according to director Ganesh Dev Pandey, because an important sequence in the film had been shot there. “We certainly have an emotional attachment to the Paropakar Sanstha,” said Pandey, whose previous work includes last year’s Rekha Thapa starrer Malati ko Bhatti. “When we were filming here, we had committed to help the organisation, and we are now donating Rs 5,000 to Uttam Joshi, committee member of Paropakar.” The unit also provided the children with a free lunch on the occasion, comprising of traditional Maghe Sankranti dishes. Backed by Tuka Entertainment, and produced by Mahesh Chalise and Naresh Pandey, Manjari stars first-time actors Gaurab Pahari and Sujata Koirala, alongside veteran actor Tika Pahari. The film encompasses a romantic drama that tells the story of a young motor mechanic Ishwar (Pahari) who falls for the wealthy Manjari (Koirali), and the repercussions of their love. “Although Manjari is an out and out commercial film, we’ve tried to incorporate as much realism in the locations, sets, characters and costumes as possible,” Pandey said, admitting that the production isn’t ‘offbeat’ as such, but certainly tries to overcome the kind of tired clichés that Nepali films suffer from. “The entire cast and crew have worked extremely hard, right from the script level, and we’re hoping our efforts pay off in the final product.”
