A MOMENT WITH MISS NEPAL 2013

THE title has come with a lot of responsibilities. I am thrilled and really excited,” says newly crowned Miss Nepal Ishani Shrestha. In a lavish event organised at the Nepal Academy auditorium in Kamaladi, Shrestha was chosen the winner among 18 contestants. “The moment was really overwhelming. Only Sipora Gurung, Sumi Lama and I were left standing and I was really nervous as both Sipora and Sumi were deserving candidates as well,” the 21-year-old says. “But when it was announced that the winner was contestant number 6, I couldn’t believe my ears. I started crying with joy.” The beauty queen refers to that particular moment in which she became Miss Nepal as an ‘amazing’ one. “I couldn’t sleep the whole night because I was so excited,” she says. “I kept looking at the crown; kept convincing myself that it really is mine.” While the biggest award of the night was definitely that crown, Shrestha also won the ‘best walk award’ at the pageant, and walked away with Rs 50,000 in air tickets from Thai Airways, an apartment as well as mobile phone, all of which came with the Miss Nepal title.. Shrestha, who is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in dentistry, says she wants to devote the entire one year to fulfilling her responsibilities as Miss Nepal 2013. “I have a big challenge in front of me,” she says. “Miss Nepal 2012 Shristi Shrestha has raised the bar really high, and I will work very hard to do my best in the world beauty pageant this September. Shrestha will be busy training for the Miss World pageant in sessions that begin in a week’s time. “I will work hard and believe in myself. I will give a hundred percent to this, and represent my country in such a prestigious platform,” she says. When asked about her childhood she says she was energetic and determined as a child. The eldest among four siblings, Shrestha says she’s always been her ‘daddy’s darling daughter’. “My dad is the first person I remembered after winning the title,” she says. “I have always dreamed of being Miss Nepal. Now my dream has been truly fulfilled.” “Even as a little girl, I used to practice and prepare for training sessions, prejudging rounds and the main event!” she says. “Today, when I look at the crown, I feel like the effort has finally paid off.” A painter and a dancer, Shrestha says she hates being passive and always makes sure to keep herself occupied. “I also like keeping myself updated on whatever’s happening in the country and the world,” she adds. “I start every morning with a cup of coffee and a newspaper.” Her first morning as Miss Nepal was, however, a bit different. “Since I couldn’t sleep properly, I had to rush for all my interviews. This morning was very unlike my regular mornings.” A congratulatory wish from a little girl who saw recognised her as Miss Nepal was a moment of sorts for the beauty queen. “She came towards me and congratulated me. It was my first experience as a public figure and I realised that life has really changed for me.” Shrestha says that each former Miss Nepal has something unique about her and says that she too has a similar quality within her. “I have received the best platform possible and will do my best to fulfil all duties that shall come in my way.”
