Girl raped in Chhaupadi shed

IN yet another incident of violence against woman, an 18-year-old SLC examinee was raped at a Chhaupadi shed, a shelter for menstruating women, at Gela VDC in the district on Wednesday night. The victim, a permanent resident of Pakha VDC, had been staying at her relative’s house to attend the ongoing SLC examinations at local Kalika Higher Secondary School SLC examination centre. Kapil Shahi of Daha VDC raped the victim who was asleep in the shed, police said. She was found unconscious with injuries on her face and arms in the shed on Thursday morning. Her clothes were torn apparently during her unsuccessful attempt to free herself from the clutches of perpetrator. The relatives rushed the victim to Manma, the district headquarters. She is undergoing treatment at Kalikot District Hospital now. Shahi is on the run after the crime. Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramesh Pokharel said security personnel have been deployed in the area to nab the absconding perpetrator. It is learnt that Shahi is a fake examinee who was attending the SLC examination in the Kalika exam centre in the name of his relative. District Education Officer Bishnu Prasad Tiwari told the Post that he had directed the concerned superintendent of the examination centre to investigate into the matter and initiate necessary action.
