‘Revolt if oppn conspires to corner UCPN (Maoist)’
UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal warned on Sunday to launch a revolt if the opposition parties continue to “hatch conspiracies to sideline his party and block people’s aspirations for change”. Dahal, who used to talk about consensus and reconciliation, has started to use the rhetoric of “revolt” and “creating a wave of protests”. On Saturday in Pokhara, after a long time, Dahal criticised President Ram Baran Yadav for not endorsing election- related ordinances. Ahead of the party’s seventh general convention that begins on February 2, Dahal has been aggressive against the opposition parties. It may be an attempt to show his revolutionary image to the cadres who are assembling for the party convention. Addressing a function at Kirtipur in Kathmandu, the Maoist chief said that the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML were deliberately derailing the process to form an inclusive state envisaged by the 12-point understanding signed in 2005 by the Maoist party with the traditional parliamentary forces. “People have the right to stage a revolt if parties continue to defame them and block the process of empowering marginalised communities,” he said. Stating that there were conspiracies to derail the peace process, the Maoist chairman said a popular uprising is necessary to safeguard federalism, social justice and republic. He also urged the opposition parties to join the incumbent government and go to the polls. He said that his party was making efforts to forge consensus among the parties and hold an election this spring. According to Dahal, if the political parties fail to forge consensus on election, his party will consider CA revival. Dahal warned of tearing up all the past agreements. Pinning all blame on the opposition parties, Dahal said that he came up with several alternatives to end the deadlock but the opposition rejected them all.
