An open-air concert in Bhaktapur
THE
Dattatreya Square, Bhaktapur is set to be transformed into an arena of
music this March. Local Nepali band Ashesh and Nekhvam (A&N) and
Seljord Folk High School band (SHFS, from Norway) got together at the
Everest Irish Pub in Thamel on March 17 to make public the details about
Bhaktapur Open Air 2013, a concert set to take place at the square on
March 19. The concert will be a social one, as far as its purpose is
concerned. Organisers hope to bring forward the issue of child rights
and safety through the concert. “Our main target is to rid Bhaktapur of
child labour in the next five years,” said Kishor Khaiju, the president
of the National Youth Federation, speaking at the programme. The band
themselves will be performing local songs, as well as songs in Nepali,
English and other languages at the programme. Although 88 students from
Norway will be taking part in the concert, only eight will be
performing. Besides SHFS and A&N, representatives of the Nepal Music
Centre and other musicians will also perform. While A&N members
Ashesh Dangol (lead singer and guitarist), Suraj Lama (bassist) and
Dipak Chalise (drummer) will be performing songs from their own albums
for the first hour of the concert, Kjetil, a singer and teacher from the
SFHS band will be joining them later on in the programme. Bhaktapur
Open Air 2013 is managed by the National Youth Federation, the Rotaract
Club of Bhaktapur and SCI Bhaktapur. The concert begins at 3:30 pm.
Entry is free for all Nepali band Ashesh and Nekhvam and the Seljord
Folk High School band from Norway will be performing at Bhaktapur Open
